Do you know your hair type? Oprah Winfrey's hair stylist, Andre Walker came up with a system of determining hair type based on basic features that the hair has. Once you know all this you will be more keen with the way you handle your hair, the shampoo that you use, the conditioner and hair styles that suit your hair.
The categories are: Type 1-Straight hair; Type 2-Wavy hair; Type 3-Curly hair.
Today I shall focus on curly hair. You know how life can get so busy and there is hardly any time to blow dry and style your hair before going to work, especially if you prefer to wash your hair every day. Girls with straight hair have it so easy!
One of my friends has fluffy, poofy hair. It's really light and soft but it doesn't have definite curls. My hair is thick and curly. The other day we were hanging out and the topic turned to hair and one of my other friends was like 'l really envy your hair, I wish I could have even half of it' This got me thinking about why our hair is different; how can we embrace our differences and make the most of what we have?
Let's analyse the two hair types-Hair density is the number of strands you have on your head. Deep hair is more dense while thin hair is less dense. Part your hair and look at your scalp. If the hair strands are crowded your hair is dense and vice versa. It is possible for a person to have different hair density on the same head you can get assistance from someone to check the density at the back of your head.
Back to Andre Walker's system, to fully understand where exactly deep curly hair and fluffy hair lie we need to examine it a bit more.
2 A- Hair tends to be wavy, quite course and resembles the letter. 2 B- Hair is basically frizzy and has definite waves. 2 C- Hair is the most course out of all the others in the same category, it is also very frizzy with thick waves.
3 A- Hair has loose curls the size of side way chalk. 3 B- Hair has medium sized curls which are about the same diameter as sharpies. 3 C- Hair has pencil sized curls.
Fluffy hair is mostly falls into type 2 and deep curly hair is then obviously placed in type 3. I guess you have noticed that your hair has other qualities that are not included here like texture and porosity. Texture is the thickness of a single hair strand. You'd find that fine hair is delicate and prone to breakage and course hair holds curls well but is less pliable. Porosity is your hair's ability to absorb moisture. Fluffy hair has medium texture and porosity thick hair has course texture.
It is only when your hair is wet that you can determine the type. Immediately after you wash your hair stretch out a strand and examine it.
Girls, no matter which type you have your hair is beautiful, you've got to believe that.
